Sacred Fire to Honour Residential School Victims

A sacred fire will be lit at 5pm this evening, June 2nd, at the Arbour in the Chief William Pow Wow Grounds to honour the 215 Kamloops Residential School victims and our ancestors who never made it home from St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School.

The sacred fire will be lit for 4 days and nights, starting this evening at 5pm and lasting until Saturday at 5pm. Every evening at 5pm there will be an honouring ceremony, which everyone is welcome to attend. We will be providing breakfast, lunch and dinner for attendees.

However, due to COVID regulations there will be a cap of 50 people at any given time, so you may have to be prepared to wait. Social distancing measures will be in place. WLFN community members and Residential School Survivors will be given first priority, so please be mindful and be prepared to offer up your place if needs be. A sign up sheet will be used to monitor the numbers.

Please be aware that no alcohol or drugs will be allowed at the ceremony.
