Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) is inviting proposals from qualified authors, researchers, historians, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers to undertake an important and meaningful project: the development of a comprehensive history book documenting the Nation’s story from time immemorial to the present day.

This Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks a skilled and culturally grounded proponent to work closely with Williams Lake First Nation to research, document, and write a book that reflects the Nation’s history through its own voice, worldview, laws, and lived experiences. Proposals must be submitted by January 30, 2026.

The primary objectives of this project are to:

  • Produce a high-quality, publish-ready manuscript suitable for community and public distribution
  • Document the historical narrative of Williams Lake First Nation from time immemorial to the present day
  • Preserve oral histories, teachings, language, and cultural knowledge
  • Reflect the Nation’s perspective, governance, laws, and resilience
  • Ensure respectful, accurate, and culturally grounded representation

The successful proponent will be responsible for conducting research, facilitating interviews, integrating oral histories, and drafting and revising a full, publish-ready manuscript. Throughout the process, the author or team will work collaboratively with WLFN leadership, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, staff, and community members, while upholding cultural protocols, data sovereignty, and confidentiality.

Williams Lake First Nation is seeking proponents with demonstrated experience in historical research and authorship, particularly those who have worked respectfully with Indigenous Nations and communities. Strong writing skills, cultural competency, and the ability to manage timelines and community engagement processes are essential. While all qualified proponents are encouraged to apply, preference may be given to Indigenous authors or teams.

Proposals will be evaluated based on their understanding of the project’s goals and cultural context, relevant experience, proposed methodology, approach to community engagement, overall value, and demonstrated commitment to respectful collaboration.

All intellectual property and collected knowledge associated with this project will remain the property of Williams Lake First Nation.
